Nob Hill Bar & Grill

A few Wednesdays ago, I went to Nob Hill Bar & Grill, which opened a few weeks ago. This is a welcome addition to the busy and trendy Nob Hill area of Albuquerque. Yes, this area if packed full of great places to eat, but we could always use a great place to eat. My friends Joe, Park, & I arrive to a packed restaurant that is well decorated. It's very modern and chic, but it seems that this establishment used to be a garage of some sort. We were seated promptly, but there was a few minute wait before our server appeared. When she arrived she was knowledgeable about the menu and was quick with the orders. We started the meal with the Jamaican Jerk Smoked Chicken Wings, which were very tasty, but served a little cold. The wings were great due to the contrast in flavors: the wings had a hot marinade, but not too hot; then the smoke added a nice color and subtle mesquite flavor to the wings; and the mango habanero sauce. This sauce was a little too mild for my taste, but the sweet sauce complemented the wings fairly well. Park had the seared tuna, I had the prime rib roll, and Joe had the NY steak. The booze selection was great and the drinks were great. Park's seared tuna was mismatched with a bland fruit paste of some sort, but the tuna was thick, great coloring, and was great on it's own. I suggested to the server that they pair that dish with a cream wasabi, but we'll see what happens. My prime rib rolls were good, but I would have called the dish something else. What I mean by this that prime rib normally is an oven cooked, moist, and thick cut of meat. This was thinly sliced, oven roasted rib eye rolls stuffed with veggies. It was served with a weak horseradish cream sauce. Joe's dish was a NY strip that was a NY strip. Overall I would give this place an average score of three out of five stars. This place is great for drink and appetizers, but dinner was just OK.
